Pre-sessional Courses

English for Academic Purposes

The Pre-sessional courses are designed to help you develop the academic skills you need to progress to a university foundation, undergraduate or postgraduate programme. If you have applied for a course at The University of Manchester but have not yet fully met the English language requirement for your academic course you may be eligible to study a Pre-sessional course in order to meet those requirements.

Pre-sessional courses last for between 3 and 20 weeks and focus on improving your academic English. All our courses cover areas such as academic writing, note-taking and presentation skills. The length of course you will be required to take will be determined by the academic School to which you have applied, with advice from the ULC.

For students who do not have a conditional offer from the University of Manchester or who need a longer period of study, the English for University Study pathway would be more appropriate.

Our Pre-sessional courses are accredited by BALEAP, in addition to Accreditation UK, ensuring that they are of the highest quality.
