Learning Guide
The University Language Centre provides all language learners with the opportunity to develop their independent learning skills. Many courses have integrated independent learning into the curriculum and some students may therefore be required to keep a portfolio/dossier as a record of their work in this area. These pages provide a wealth of learner advice to support these aims. They are divided into the following Sections:
- A guide to independent language learning - what it is and what it isn't, how to go about becoming a better and more independent language learner and how to develop your skills at managing your own learning
- A guide to developing your skills - with support for Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking, Grammar and Vocabulary learning
- A guide to exploiting resources - with support for using computer aided learning packages, DVDs, the internet etc, pointing you to the resources explicitly provided in the University Language Centre, with particular emphasis on the learning facilities at Samuel Alexander Building.
You are also strongly recommended to visit the Faculty of Humanities Study Skills site which provides further very useful guidance on developing all your skills as an undergraduate in the University.
The LearnHigher Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) is another excellent resource to support students' learning development.
